Review Anand Sagar Pure Veg restaurant Calangute.

Just out of Calangute heading towards Candolim, you will find this wonderful pure veg restaurant, idea for lunchtime.

Downstairs is non-a/c upstairs is a/c that will cost you 10% extra.

The restaurant is basic but clean, there are both men and women’s toilets again basic but clean, and a hand washing area with liquid soap.

Quick and efficient meal took no more than 15 mins to get to us, but we were the only people upstairs, however from where I sat by the window I could see people coming and going all the time, eating downstairs.

Very pleasant and friendly staff.

Our Order

Veg Hyderabadi – 130 Rupees

The waiter asked how spicy we required this dish.  Pleasantly surprised the curry was sufficient for two people.  Full of veg, mushrooms, carrots, green beans, peas and corn. Very tasty and cooked to our preference of medium.

Veg Biryani – 90 Rupees

Again enough for two, full of veg and paneer cheese.   Rita and a very nice side plate of pickle, onion and lemon.

Roti – 20 rupees each

Light soft and not doughy, just how we like them.

Total Cost of meal

Veg Hyderabadi, biryani, three roti and one bottle of water 305 rupees for two.

Would I go back?  Yes I give Anand Sagar 5 Red Chillies

Navtara Veg Restaurant Review

For the last eight years of being in Goa, I have to say that Navtara is the best 100% pure veg restaurant in Goa.

They have restaurants in Mapsua, Panaji, Margo, and Purvorim and just recently, they have opened a new one in Calangute.

Mr R and I have always found the portion sizes ample enough to share a curry and biryani, and great value too.

All their establishments are impeccably clean.  Service is quick, efficient, and friendly.  On the ground floor of all Navatara’s the downstairs is non-a/c, meals are served on traditional stainless steel plates.  Upstairs they offer a/c and food is served on white plastic plates.

Be aware that all these restaurants get very busy at lunchtime; we tend to get there for mid-day before the rush.

Veg Biryani 130 Rupees.
A huge dish packed potatoes, peas, cauliflower, paneer cheese, green peppers, carrots and green beans. More than enough for two people.  A spicy dish, that you will want time and time again.

Veg Makhanwala 150 Rupees.

What can I say, amazing not lacking in veg at all and the gravy sauce is creamy, tasty and unlike so many curries I have had here not floating in oil.

Veg Rita - Free
Yes, free normally you have to pay extra for rita which normally is just curd this had more than enough chopped veg.

More than enough food. So the total of our meal with 2 bottles of water and 2 rotis came to: 360 Rupees.  What more could you ask for.

Will I Be Back? Oh yes, no question of that, the best value for money in Goa.

No question 5 Red Chillies

Sunday Walk Candolim, Calangunte, Arpora, Baga, Calangunte Back Home

This Sunday we did a nice 10-mile road walk starting at Candolim, onto Calangute, Arpora, Baga, back into Calangute and then back home to Candolim.

For the last week Candolim Market has been the site for festival of Ganesh.  Unfortunately not able to see the effigy of Ganesh, as the Priest was already conducting his morning ceremony.

The best time to walk has to be early in the morning, when the weather is cool and not much traffic is on the road.  One thing to remember when you are walking on the roads in Goa, there are very few footpaths, and drivers are not pedestrian friendly.

And don't forget the cows!

Walking straight passed Calangute we walked on to Arpora is a small village, with a few shops and
restaurants, keeping going straight and then take a left that will lead you to Baga.

A lovely peaceful walk that takes you to Baga Creek.

Normally you can walk on the new main road that will take you into Baga, but as you can see works have stopped this for a while.

Now we are in Baga this is the time you need eyes in the back of your head, narrow roads, no pavements and crazy drivers.

Keep your eyes open there is always some cultural you can spot along the way. I love these pictures.

Then  to the mayhem of Calangunte Beach Road.

Before heading home.

Just before serving add yogurt and cook for another 2/3 mins. Sprinkle with chilli flakes and serve.

Shree Sagar Calangute Goa - Restaurant Review

When we arrived at Shree Sagar at mid-day the restaurant  was very  busy, we managed to get the last table upstairs.

A basic 100 % pure veg restaurant,  the  décor shabby however tables, cutlery, and plates were all  clean.  I did not see any wash rooms.

After ordering our meal of Aloo Gobi, Veg jalfrazie and three plain roti, Mr R and I were expecting a long wait. It seems this restaurant is very popular with Indian tourists, tables quickly cleared ready for waiting customers.

Amazingly, we only had to wait fifteen minutes for our meals to arrive.

Aloo Gobi – 85 Rupees
Both Mr R and I were disappointed with the Alu Gobi.  Traditionally, from Nepal it is a dry curry of potato (Aloo) and Cauliflower (Gobi).  It was all sauce and hardly any potato or cauliflower.

Veg Jalfrazie – 100 Rupees

This is a curry of peppers, onion, tomato and green chillies in a thick sauce, one of my favourite curries, but sadly tasted just the same as the Aloo Gobi, but made creamy by adding yoghurt and paneer cheese.

The waiter hovered around the table as I was taking the last mouthful of my meal, asked if we wanted anything else, when we said no the bill was placed on the table already printed.

Would I go back again?   Mmmm..., I have to say the prices of a main meal for a busy tourist area are excellent, beach shacks would be putting the same curries on their menus for much more.  So yes, even though not up to my full expectations, I would go back. A 250 Rupees lunch for 2, with water, for a restaurant I have to say is excellent value.

I am giving Shree Sagar 3 red chillies mainly for the price.

Sunday walk to Baga Creek - Goa

Cheeky Indian Ice cream seller at Baga Creek

Kulfi Indian ice cream, looks like ice cream in appearance and taste but creamier, usually flavored  with pistachio, rose or vanilla.

I love the pistachio.

Baga Beach, 2km south of Calaungute in season time is a busy touristy beach, sunbeds and beach shacks as far as the eye can see.

Personally in season time too busy for Mr R, and me but we do like to walk down the beach from Candolim to Baga Creek. If you like to walk it takes about 1 1/2 hrs at a steady pace from Candolim to Baga Creek. Mr R and I walk there and back most days.

This is how Baga looked in season time fifteen years ago, but now sadly only in the off -season.

Baga Creek

If you go to Baga Creek with your own car, or bike there is pay parking, check the price before you park up.
