Lunch time review of Alfi Restaurant, Calangute Market Goa

If you are a regular to Calangute Market, then for sure you will have walked passed Alfi Restaurant.

Most probably you have never noticed it. Without a doubt, you will have seen the guys cooking up a beef fry enough to feed Calangute. Piles of roti’s and chicken rolls, on the huge griddles without knowing the main restaurant was just across the lane. Definitely, you looked and thought, ‘not for me.’ Well how wrong you would be.

If you love food, on a budget, or just want to have a cheap non-veg lunch with no frills, then Alif’s is the place to head, especially for their beef fry. Which is what MR R and I went for.

Beef Fry: Rupees 120/£1.30/€1.48/₽111.44/$1.68/₴47.08
The beef was to die for. So tender it melted in your mouth. And the gravy sauce…. Heavenly. So much so after MR R and I had a plate each, we ordered another plate.

We thought the best beef fry we have ever had, was at the Hawker stalls in Kuala Lumpur. Well my friends, it’s not. Alif’s may not serve as big a portion as KL, but darn it, they certainly hit the mark in flavour and quality, serving the best frigging beef fry in Goa.

Chicken Roll Rupees 50 /£0.55/€0.62/₽46.43/$0.70/₴19.61
Chapatti Rupees 10/£0.11/€0.12/₽9.28/$0.14/₴3,92

Would I go back again? Oh yes!

Lunchtime Review – Rasoi The Kitchen Baga Road Calangute Goa

A great little vegetarian place for lunchtime.

A small, clean, roadside café on the busy Baga Road that offers quick, friendly service and fresh tasty food. Okay, some of the dishes are a little overpriced but sometimes a few rupees more is worth it for good food.

STAFF & SERVICE

All the staff were friendly and attentive. By the time we came to order there were a couple more tables waiting to order and a large takeaway order being placed. In spite of this the nice young waiter, although busy still repeated our order and our food arrived in fifteen minutes. The waiter came twice to us for a table check. Halfway through our meal and then again when we asked for the bill.

HYGIENE
Both the outside eating area and a/c section was clean and tidy. The tables and menus all spotless. Nice crockery and cutlery. A very nice hand wash area. From where I sat I could see into the kitchen that looked tidy and hygienic.

FOOD

VEG KOFTA – RUPEES 200/£2.23/€2.49/₽191.21/$2.85/₴79.99
The best veg kofta I have had in a long time. Too many times I have found the vegetable balls too soft, mainly due to the vegetables inside being pureed and watery. This was not the case at Rasoi.
Nice and firm and crispy on the outside. On the inside soft and velvety, packed with pieces of vegetables. As for the sauce….it was divine. I could have eaten a bowlful of that. So full of aromatic spices, and creamy.

VEG KOLHAURI: Rupees 190/£2.12/€2.36/₽181.65/$2.70/₴75.91
Not the best I have had, but still full of flavour. Was told it was spicy but personally, I would have liked a little more kick.

However, it had plenty of vegetable content and tasty. What I loved about both of the sauces was…not floating in oil. The chiefs here know how to make a good sauce.

CHAPATI: RUPEES 13/£0.15/€0.16/₽12.42/$0.18/₴5.19 excellent value and yummy and soft.
